RAIN

I planted my vegetable garden on May 12th.
Most of the herbs were already in from last year but I added cilantro, parsley, fennel, thai basil, basil, and two types of lavender.

I thought May was pretty crappy weather-wise and this super-nerdy site can prove it- http://or.water.usgs.gov/non-usgs/bes/. Find the rain gauge closest to you! About 3 inches so far this month and half of it fell the last three days. I'm going to mildew.

Anyway, my point is that the full-sun plants aren't doing too well. These plants look sick: butternut squash, zucchini, cucumber (slug ate most of it), broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and the pepper plants.

These plants look OK: beans, peas, all the herbs, leeks, lettuce, chard, onions... I think that's it. OH, the beet seeds sprouted, it only took two weeks... sheesh. I don't have the best spot for a garden plot- it's on the west side of a building. The neighbor with the south side patch is the luckiest- his lettuce is getting full sun.

TO DO: blue ribbon slug bait, weeding
